Boomer’s mom contacted me because Boomer is a young dog and she needed a refresher course in obedience.
Being an experienced dog owner, Marilyn knew she had to exercise Boomer mentally as well as physically, so we got to work to burn some of that energy through obedience training.
Beside Boomer having good manners, Marilyn was particularly concerned about having a strong Recall (come). You see she and her husband have property in Canada and apparently there are four types of rattlesnakes in Canada and neither one would be a good mix for any dog.
I wanted to get Marilyn right to work with Recall. For me teaching a dog their Recall is the most important exercise you can ever teach them, because it is a safety issue.
I was so happy to have worked with this family. We had a great time and I’m happy to report that Boomer continues to do extremely well. Nothing can prepare anyone, dog or human, for coming into contact with a rattlesnake and I pray Boomer never learns. But at least knowing his Recall gives Boomer a better chance to avoid any potential confrontations and gives his owners peace of mind.
